MIT Is Using AI to Turn Regular Pictures Into Images of Halloween Horror

Have you ever wished your Halloween had a little more tech and a little less treat? Well, a group of researchers over at MIT feel that way, coming up with a project that they’re calling Nightmare Machine. They’ve used a deep learning algorithm to trick out images of people’s faces and world landmarks with chilling effects. And they have an entire Instagram account dedicated to these AI-powered spooky images. The team – comprised of Pinar Yanardag, a post-doc at the MIT Media Lab; Manuel Cebrian, the principal research scientist at CSIRO Data61; and Iyad Rahwan, an associate professor at the MIT Media Lab – explained the macabre project on their website.
