Yahoo brings machine learning data to the research community with huge dataset release

Yahoo released what it called the largest-ever machine learning dataset to the research community. The company said it hopes the release will allow more people, not only researchers and data scientists working at large companies, to do work in machine learning.  “Our goals are to promote independent research in the fields of large-scale machine learning and recommender systems, and to help level the playing field between industrial and academic research,” Suju Rajan, director of research for personalization science at Yahoo Labs, wrote in the announcement. The 13.5TB dataset holds anonymized data collected from the interactions of approximately 20 million Yahoo users between February and May of 2015.
