VU offers new undergrad degree in data science

VALPARAISO — A new undergraduate degree program at Valparaiso University combines the digital world full of information with the real world where employers want to understand trends and predict future results. The bachelor of science in data science program at VU started this fall and is intended prepare graduates for jobs across a wide spectrum of fields, from businesses to government to nonprofits. Karl Schmitt, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics, said the emerging field of data science turns data into valuable insights and into actionable ideas. The goal of data science is to not only understand data, but to make it more meaningful than the individual pieces.
