VOX POPULI: Will highly advanced artificial intelligence be kind to mankind?

Robots waging war against the human race, which created them, is a common plot in science fiction movies. An early dramatic work on this theme was “R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots),” a play composed by the Czech writer Karel Capek (1890-1938). In the play translated into Japanese by Eiichi Chino (1932-2002), when asked why robots hate mankind, one gives a weird answer: “You are not like robots. … You are not as capable as robots are.” Artificial intelligence, which serves as the brain of robots, has made amazing progress in recent years.
