Virginia Tech will add School of Neuroscience

BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) – Virginia Tech will likely become the first university in the country to create a school of neuroscience. This came after a unanimous vote from the Board of Visitors during its meeting Monday. Many colleges have neuroscience programs, which study the brain and its functions, but no one has an entire school dedicated to this field. Over the next few years, the addition is expected to bring in up to 1,000 new students and 30 faculty members. This will generate an estimated $4 million in tuition revenue and $20 million in grants every year. The neuroscience school is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2016. It will also boost collaboration with the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute in Roanoke. Advertisement
