University of California Leading New Big Data Innovation Hub

Photo: John Morgan / FlickrCC UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and the University of Washington will lead one of four new regional innovation hubs for big data science funded by the National Science Foundation, the UC system announced this week. The West Big Data Innovation Hub will focus on big data technology, managing natural hazards and resources, precision medicine, metro data science, and data-enabled science and learning. The National Science Foundation is putting more than $5 million toward the network of “BD Hubs.” The other coordinating entities are Columbia University (Northeast Hub), the University of North Carolina and Georgia Tech (South Hub) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Midwest Hub).
