He started at Ames Laboratory in 1998 as an undergraduate, working in Ames Laboratory’s Information Systems group. In 2001, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Iowa State University and joined Ames Laboratory full-time as a systems support specialist, and later was Ames Laboratory’s computer protection program manager for six years, a role he recently resumed. He earned a master’s degree in computer science in 2009, also from Iowa State University. Since 2012, Strasburg has been conducting security-related research.
