The Second City of tech? Now that would be a worthwhile goal

When Crain’s published its first list of Chicago tech all-stars in 2011, it was going to be a one-off. But as the tech sector got bigger and better, Crain’s list of notables not only became an annual project, we doubled the roster to 50—with each year’s class as different as possible to spotlight the growing collection of people who, often behind the scenes, are remaking Chicago. Six years, six lists and 230 names later, it’s clear how far the city has come. It’s also clear where we could be headed and what might stand in our way.
