The Government is blindly ignoring the threats of artificial intelligence

MPs on The House of Commons Science and Technology Select Committee have a stark warning for the Government this morning: “Government leadership in the fields of robotics and AI has been lacking.” The Select Committee is formed of MPs, including The Telegraph’s former technology editor Matt Warman MP, who have the power to investigate issues and report their findings back to Parliament – in this case on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. While the likes of Google, Amazon and Tesla have been leading the development of artificial intelligence and exploring the ethical implications, the Select Committee said in its findings this morning that: “this does not absolve the Government of its responsibilities.” Now if this all sounds airy-fairy, remember, Amazon’s Alexa AI assistant is already in millions of homes, virtual banking…
