Tech Moguls Team Up to Build Billion Artificial-Intelligence Nonprofit

Some of the biggest names in Silicon Valley announced a joint project Friday to establish a research center to develop “digital intelligence” that benefits humankind, report The New York Times. Tesla Motors chief Elon Musk, venture capitalist Peter Thiel, and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman are among the entrepreneurs, investors, and philanthropists who say they will collectively commit $1 billion to building the nonprofit, San Francisco-based center, to be called OpenAI. Mr. Musk is using artificial intelligence-based technologies in some of the auto company’s products but has publicly aired his fears that intelligent machines could pose a threat to humans.
