Study to figure out if Apple Watch can detect a stroke before it happens

A study team is checking whether heart rate sensing hardware in consumer devices can detect atrial fibrillation, a serious medical condition that can lead to stroke. Researchers from the University of California, San Francisco are conducting the study with developers of Cardiogram, an Apple Watch app. A machine learning algorithm capable to accurately detect atrial fibrillation was designed by UCSF Health eHeart study and software engineers from Cardiogram through the use of Apple Watch and Android Wear devices. According to Brandon Ballinger, cofounder of Cardiogram, the machine learning algorithm detects atrial fibrillation using consumer grade heart rate sensors. Brandon with his associate Johnson Hsieh would next work on more complex algorithm for yielding more accurate results. mRhythm is the semi-supervised deep learning algorithm that can learn from users, who areā€¦
