Speech AI Expert VocalIQ from Cambridge Acquired by Apple, Possible Improvements for Siri

Apple recently acquired VocalIQ to further enhance the Cupertino-based tech giant’s digital assistant, Siri. The exact sum of the acquisition for the Cambridge speech technology wasn’t disclosed, but it is estimated to be between $50 and $100 million. VocalIQ specializes in the field of artificial intelligence for speech. The company believes that their tech will play a big role in the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) and it makes sense considering that the trend is going hands-free, even for smartphones. Apple did not only acquire VocalIQ, the former may have been setting up office spaces for the latter. In 2014, the iPhone maker has set up a research and development office at 90 Hills Road in the United Kingdom. It is believed that VocalIQ will be setting up shop there.…
