SAU students hear special lecture on neuroscience

Jessica Kelley, a Southern Arkansas University Fall 2015 graduate from Magnolia, recently had the opportunity to attend a lecture on the neuroscience of learning. Kelley, accompanied by faculty members Dr. Dana Leighton and Dr. Jon Oxford, traveled to Texarkana with a group of SAU students to a public lecture given by Dr. Dominic Cheng of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Cheng spoke on the neurobiological substrates involved in eyeblink conditioning and learning. This research has implications for the understanding and treatment of learning disorders in children and adults. “Seeing an active researcher present cutting-edge neuroscience research is a rare and valuable experience for undergraduate students, and the students demonstrated their enthusiasm for the talk with questions and discussions with Dr. Cheng after the talk,” said Dr. Leighton.
