“Transgalactic” by James Gunn, Tor Books, 220 pages, $26.99 Science fiction is a genre which arguably peaked during the mid-20th century when such legendary writers as Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Robert Heinlein and Ray Bradbury were popular. James Gunn is a 92-year-old emeritus professor at the University of Kansas whose science fiction roots date to that illustrious period. He is one of the few living writers designated Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America for his many contributions to literature.
