Animals Experiments were performed with male C57BL/6NCrl (B6) inbred mice purchased from Charles River Germany at an age of 6–8 weeks. All animals were kept under standardized single housing conditions (i.e., Makrolon type II cages with wood shavings, inverse 12 h light/dark cycle with lights off at 0900 hours, at 22 ± 2 °C room temperature and 55 ± 5% humidity). Water and food were provided ad libitum. Animals were allowed to habituate to the local housing conditions for at least 2 weeks before starting the experiments. All experimental procedures were performed in accordance with the guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals set by the European Community Council and approved by the local animal welfare authority (Regierung von Oberbayern).
