Postdoctoral position in Developmental Neuroscience

The Molofsky Lab seeks to understand the role of glial cells in brain development and plasticity by identifying cell type specific genes that  define new functions and subtypes of glia. We use flow cytometry and other cell isolation techniques followed by RNA sequencing to identify astrocyte-encoded genes that are heterogenously expressed in the developing brain. We then study how candidate genes regulate neuronal synapse and circuit formation using transgenic mouse models, viral gene modification, and in vitro approaches. Current projects in the lab include interactions between astrocytes and neurons in synapse formation (both excitatory and inhibitory), and neuroimmune interactions between astrocytes and microglia in synapse pruning.
