BENGALURU: Infosys chief executive Vishal Sikka, who on Saturday pledged a $1-billion investment to non-profit artificial intelligence research firm OpenAI along with Amazon Web Services and a clutch of marquee Silicon Valley leaders including Tesla’s Elon Musk and Y Combinator’s Sam Altman, said the newly-formed venture would seek to address a “lack of fundamental progress in the field” of AI.In a post on Infosys’s InfyTalk blog, Sikka said the idea of creating OpenAI took shape when sometime ago Altman was mulling over the idea of creating an open ecosystem for AI.”A few weeks ago, Marvin Minsky, one of the fathers of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the one who gave the field its first definition made a few sobering statements about the state-of-the-art in AI.
