New Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU protects smartphones with artificial intelligence

American chip manufacturer Qualcomm today announced the Snapdragon 820 mobile CPU that is able to detect malware and malicious apps using artificial intelligence. The CPU features a technology called Smart Protect that monitors app behavior in real time. If the chip, expected for the first half of 2016, detects malicious or suspected behavior it will show a warning. Qualcomm argues its technology makes smartphones more secure and better protected against malicious apps, malware and adware. Because the technology resides in the processor and doesn’t need an internet connection it’s more energy efficient than running antivirus apps.
