Swiss researchers have taught drones how to navigate in the forest and find lost or injured hikers in need of help. The research group, comprised of scientists from NCCR Robotics, the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the University of Zurich used deep learning neural networks to “smarten up” a drone. The challenge? Navigate through a dense forest. Teaching a probe to find the right path to follow is not an easy task.
