Microsoft buys Genee AI calendaring app and will close it down in a matter of days

MICROSOFT IS to acquire Genee, a calendar scheduling app based on artificial intelligence, and will close it down straight away as a special ‘thank you’ to all the people who helped make it what it is. The Genee functionality will then be integrated into Microsoft’s Office 365 kludge. The value of the deal was not disclosed. Co-founders Ben Cheung and Charles Lee, who started the company in 2014, will join Microsoft to help with the integration process as soon as they’ve finished counting their money. It’s not the first time that Microsoft has scooped up a popular mobile app for its functionality then closed it down. Microsoft bought the Sunrise calendaring app for $100m earlier this year and killed it just months later partly in a bid to persuade users…
