Machine Learning; from your PC to your pocket

Last week, Google partnered with Movidius with an aim to bring machine learning to mobile devices independent of the cloud. As part of their agreement, Google will contribute to Movidius’ neural network technology map and in return Movidius will allow Google to source their processors and their entire software development environment. This was all done to enable devices to function freely without the reliance on Wi-Fi. Google wants to now take the next step to break the machine learning capabilities out of the data centre and put them into our hands. Division Alphabet, the machine learning group at Google headed by Blaise Agϋera y Arcas, a prominent former Microsoft engineer, announced it would start licensing processors from Movidius, with vision processing units (VPU’s).  Google will be using Movidius’ latest chip…
