× Local researchers team up with drug giant to develop dementia meds SAN DIEGO — The Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute of La Jolla and GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceutical firm announced Wednesday the formation of the SBP-GSK Center for Translational Neuroscience. The joint center, to be located on the SBP campus, will bring together experts from both organizations to study factors that influence brain function and that could reverse or slow down neurodegeneration — with the aim of identifying and validating new therapy options. Under the three-year agreement, GSK will provide funding to create and support a research laboratory staffed by SBP scientists, postdoctoral candidates and technicians.
