Geeks and sport may not be thought of as going hand in hand but in reality sport can be super-geeky.This first dawned on me when I covered the technology behind the oneAustralia America’s Cup bid 20 years ago.That boat was born out of supercomputers churning through complex fluid dynamics calculations with designs for scale models of the yacht being sent from Australia to Canada for testing.This all seemed amazingly high-tech, so I was quite disappointed when the boat broke in half and sank, the first yacht to do so in 150 years of America’s Cup racing (tinyurl.com/nzh-oneaustralia).Occasional fiascos apart, technology continues to make inroads into different sports to the point that it’s not really possible to be competitive without using sensors, data analytics and other geeky bits of equipment.Singapore has…
