We talk robots, impact and goal-scoring abilities with the University of Bath’s new data scientist Mike Tipping is an expert in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence and big data. From 2013 to 2015, he was director of science at Featurespace, a Cambridge-based start-up that pioneered “Adaptive Behavioural Analytics”, a new form of data analysis used to prevent fraud in some of the world’s largest banks and insurance companies. He was a member of the team that started Microsoft’s Research Laboratory in Cambridge in 1998 and invented and built the “Drivatar” model still used in Microsoft’s Xbox title Forza Motorsport.
