Intel Artificial Intelligence Chip Xeon Phi Unveiled

With the buzz on artificial intelligence getting louder, Intel, the world’s biggest chip maker on Tuesday unveiled the Intel artificial intelligence chip Xeon Phi. Codenamed Knights Mill, the Xeon Phi processor for servers and workstations was unveiled by Intel executive Diane Bryant. It is fully optimized for artificial-intelligence software and deep learning applications. The product will hit the market in 2017. Answering the Competition Intel’s chips had been famous as fastest number crunchers. But Nvidia’s graphics chips had made inroads in the market and was giving big competition in servers dedicated to neural networks that process unstructured data such as video or speech.
