Inside KPMG’s mysterious AI-focused business unit

Data analysts with an ear to the job market will have seen a steady stream of positions vacant at the mysterious Solution 49x. It’s a new unit of audit firm KPMG that promises to embed “artificial intelligence, machine-based learning, cognitive computing, advanced analytics, probabilistic reasoning and deterministic business rules management into core processes and functions within a client organisation”. And it is growing rapidly, hiring some 30 staff since it launched into the market in October 2015. Solution 49x lead partner Rod Bryan sees the unit’s role as finding practical ways to embed and eke value from artificial intelligence and other forms of advanced data processing in the enterprise.
