IBM and SoftBank Make Inroads Into Artificial Intelligence With Watson APIs

IBM and SoftBank released six Japanese Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that could be used to create cognitive computing apps for Watson – IBM’s supercomputer that uses machine learning to process big data. The APIs are designed to optimize Watson to interact with native speakers of Japan and avoid semantic confusion. Firstly, the Natural Language Classifier API will allow developers to build apps that understand users’ intent and meaning even when questions are put in different ways. Secondly, with the Dialog service, Watson will change its communication pattern to match with users’ style of speaking. The Retrieve and Rank enhance information retrieval with machine learning to detect “signals” in data and bring forward only relevant result.
