HPE targets big data and financial services workloads with new HPC servers

HPE is beefing up its high-performance computing server business this year, and it’s targeting businesses running complex HPC and big data workloads, as well as the financial services industry. The vendor is getting ready to release two new products in the HPE Apollo family. The HPE Apollo 4520 System will be available on April 18. It’s a dual-node system that includes high-performance fabrics and drive failover that was designed to support Lustre deployments. HPE designed the 4520 to be open to provide customers with a choice, such as using an HPE-supported Lustre offering or another option in the Lustre open source community. It’s the open nature that HPE sees as the value proposition of the 4520. The vendor’s press release indicated that most HPC storage appliances are closed, limiting flexibility.…
