How memorable is your face?

Can you remember faces? What about landscapes? Researchers have developed a computer algorithm that can predict how memorable a photograph is – almost as well as a human. The team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has created ‘LaMem’, an online tool that scans photographs to show how memorable or forgettable they are. Upload your photographs to LaMem or add a URL and it will scan the image to create a heat map that can identify the most memorable areas of a photograph, and give it a score. The red areas are the most memorable. An image with a low memorability score might be something fairly common, like a river, field or hill (top below).
