Govt not prepared for robot revolution – MPs

The Government is failing to prepare for how artificial intelligence will “fundamentally” change people’s lives, MPs have warned. A report by the Science and Technology Committee found there is no strategy for developing the new skills workers will need to succeed as the use of automation and AI increases. The committee also warned more needs to be done to tackle the social and ethical problems posed by robots. It urged the Government to set up a commission on artificial intelligence to look at potential problems the science could create. The committee found that although there is “some way to go before we see systems and robots as portrayed in films like Star Wars”, the Government’s role in preparing for the change is “lacking”.
