Google open-sources its TensorFlow “deep learning” engine

Tech giant Google has revealed in a Monday announcement that it has open-sourced part of its “deep learning” engine called TensorFlow, which powers the Google Photos app as well as the company’s speech recognition and its translation services. Google’s recently announced move to open-source TensorFlow underscores a significant advance made by the company towards building artificial intelligence (AI), or allowing someone else build it. The TensorFlow “deep earning” engine is essentially a library of algorithms which gives Google the capability to ‘train’ computer systems – called “neural networks” – in such a way that they can think as well as learn in the same manner as humans do.
