Google, Movidius team up to equip mobile devices with ‘deep learning’ capabilities

On Wednesday, tech giant Google and machine vision processing developer Movidius announced a new partnership, under which the two companies will join forces to make mobile devices ‘smarter’ by enhancing them with ‘deep learning’ capabilities. As a result of the new partnership announced by Google and Movidius, which have previously worked together on Google’s Project Tango initiative, cameras in the smartphones may soon boast the inclusion of ‘deep learning’ technology — that is, the machine learning technology which could help assist the visually-impaired and quickly translate foreign signs. Under the terms of the new partnership, Google will deploy Movidius processors and software development in its Android-based mobile devices; and Movidius will gain help from Google in furthering its neural network technology efforts.
