Gearing up for the healthcare blockchain – a chat with data scientist Bryan Smith

Bryan Smith, Chief Scientist with PokitDok, doesn’t care for the “data scientist” label, though he concedes it hasn’t hurt his career. Smith, who has a Ph.D. from Caltech in Neuroscience, has crunched numbers in less glamorous circumstances, like in 2004, when analyzing a 400 gig data set required dozens of networked computers. After appearing on the Consensus 2016 Enterprise Blockchain panel I wrote about Wednesday, Smith joined me to dig into the viability of the healthcare blockchain. PokitDok, which bills itself as a “Cloud-based API platform designed to make healthcare transactions more efficient,” is not technically a blockchain startup.
