Facebook Shuts Down Its Experimental Creative Labs

Facebook has the pulled the plug on its experimental Creative Labs, which produced standalone apps like Riff, Rooms and Slingshot. The experimental initiative was a program that allowed company employees to pursue their own projects for new apps. The social network will continue to build standalone apps, but without the Creative Labs banner. The Menlo Park social networking firm has released a slew of experimental apps over the past few years that never really caught on. Slingshot is perhaps the most recognizable of the three shuttered apps for its attempt to take on Snapchat in the ephemeral messaging space.
