Facebook About to Launch Personal Assistant
Facebook, the biggest social media in the world is constantly working on that as well. It has recently announced that people are soon going to enjoy Personal Assistant “M”, which is basically a mixture between artificial intelligence and human intelligence that was created to make our lives easier. It not only improves communication, but it can also accomplish tasks.
Much like Apple’s Siri, which is an intelligent personal assistant, as well as a knowledge navigator that answers, performs tasks and makes recommendations, Facebook’s “M” can do many thing for you:
“Unlike other [artificial intelligence]-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments, and way more,” explained David Marcus, who is a the vice president of the company’s messaging products.
This is Facebook’s first attempt to create a personal assistant that could compete with Google Now, Apple’s Siri and Microsoft’s Cortana.
Launching personal assistant “M” does not necessarily come as a shock, as some users have been expecting this application for a long time.
The new app was created to improve users’ communication. However, what makes it really special is the fact that it is a hybrid program that uses both human and artificial intelligence: “M is a personal digital assistant inside of Messenger that completes tasks and finds information on your behalf. It’s powered by artificial intelligence that’s trained and supervised by people,” said David Marcus.
Thus, M can do many things for you – it can buy things, have gifts delivered to the people you want to receive them, make travel arrangements and appointments, book reservations after making suggestions.
It is Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, greatest ambition to improve communication between people and M is a way for the company to reach this goal faster. The new personal assistant was announced on Friday, August 28 and it has already become available to users living in the San Francisco Bay area, not far from the company’s headquarters.
