Data Science Initiative Overview The Data Science Initiative (DSI) is a very broad campus-wide effort to advance data-driven discovery and analysis in all academic disciplines in this era of “Big Data.” The goals of the initiative are to enable qualitatively new data-driven research and develop methods and infrastructure for such research. Data Science spans the entire data pipeline, from identifying and accessing data, to cleaning, exploring and managing data, visualizing data, statistical and machine learning methods, dissemination of insights, publication and data curation. The initiative’s focus extends beyond STEM fields and includes applications in all fields where data can help to answer important questions.
