Column: Lab-based professional learning helps teaching

(Photo: O&E) Ron Ritchhart builds the case for enculturation explaining it as the “key to deep learning and the development of the Habits of Mind and dispositions needed in a changing world.” Kent Lake has created a culture in which students and staff value life-long learning. We continuously set goals and collaborate to grow our learning. Kent Lake established a framework to expand the opportunities for educators to engage in rich discussions and reflect upon professional learning. A CoT leadership team has been formed and teachers have developed a culture in which thinking is valued, visible and actively promoted within their classrooms and throughout the school community.
