College-level DVD courses provide enrichment at Nevada County Jail

Tracy, a 31-year-old inmate at the Nevada County Jail, has an idea for a business she wants to start when she’s released from the facility. It’s called “Pretty and Primp” — a mobile salon that would bring haircuts, manicures and waxing services to customers, instead of requiring them to come to a brick-and-mortar salon. For the past several months, Tracy, who asked that her last name be withheld, has been learning about writing a business plan, obtaining capital, marketing a brand and other facets of running a small business by watching “The Entrepreneur’s Toolkit,” a series of lectures in which Michael G. Goldsby, the executive director of the entrepreneurship center at Indiana’s Ball State University, covers the basics of starting and expanding a small business. Some of the topics covered…
