Many have been stumped by the ‘100 hat riddle’ designed to spot the smart during interviews with Google and Goldman Sachs – but the company’s artificial intelligence team have managed to crack it. A team from the University of Oxford, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research and Google’s DeepMind created an AI called “deep distributed recurrent Q-networks” to tackle the puzzle. It requires complex problem-solving to determine the fates of hypothetical prisoners. In the scenario, 100 prisoners are lined up, each wearing a red or blue hat.
