Tim Verstynen, an assistant professor in psychology and neuroscience at Carnegie Mellon University, will discuss how the architecture of the brain allows humans to learn complex skills and make fast decisions, particularly when faced with a 100-mph baseball.  A hitter has less than half a second to predict where the ball is going, to decide whether or not to swing, and make a very fast and precise action. A question-and-answer session follows. Doors open at 6 p.m. Food and drinks available for purchase.
