Toyota is making a $50 million investment for the development of artificial intelligence for driverless cars, in collaboration with Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.(Photo : Justin Sullivan | Getty Images) Toyota finally entered the race to build self-driving cars, as the Japanese automobile manufacturer announced that it is making a $50 million investment over the next five years into development of the technology. The investment will go towards the establishment of research centers with Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with the centers to work on the combination of artificial intelligence with self-driving car technology. “We will initially focus on the acceleration of intelligent vehicle technology, with the immediate goal of helping eliminate traffic casualties and the ultimate goal of helping improve quality of lifeā€¦
