Apple poaches Nvidia’s deep learning director to fuel automotive plans

APPLE HAS POACHED Nvidia’s director of deep learning in what is thought to be a bid to bolster the firm’s upcoming car technology. The move was reported on Jonathan Cohen’s LinkedIn page on Friday. His bio doesn’t say much more than ‘I build software,’ but Apple’s hire is a bit of a give away as the firm uses deep learning tech for things like maps and voice recognition with Siri, and Nvidia’s deep learning has been specifically focused on improving technology in cars. Nvidia has been pushing its GPU-accelerated deep learning, which it said will help developers bring increasingly smarter AI to everything from online image databases to household items and vehicles.
