Apple Hires Nvidia AI Director With Experience in Self-Driving auto Systems

The new hire is Jonathan Cohen, the director of deep learning for chip-maker Nvidia, as reported by re/code. Before he joined Nvidia Cohen worked in the Hollywood feature film special effects industry, where he developed software for films including “The Cat in the Hat” and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. The deep learning of the chips is a form of artificial intelligence that allows companies to train computers to process patterns from a large view of visual data, i.e. through a camera. Interestingly, the poaching of Cohen comes at a time when Apple is building up a sizeable internal operation around cars.
