AlphaGo’s victory should serve as a warning

To the surprise of spectators, Google’s Artificial Intelligence AlphaGo recently beat the top Go player Lee Sedol four to one in a five-game series. Finally, a human has been bested by artificial intelligence. The victory of AlphaGo was unexpected since many thought that the machine would only be able to master the game of Go, the complex ancient Chinese board game, within the next 10 years. However, Google, with its DeepMind technology, has accomplished the goal way ahead of time. It is a milestone for the development of artificial intelligence, but it is something of which we should be weary, not celebrate.
