A new X Prize challenges artificial intelligence to solve humanity’s biggest problems

At this year’s TED conference in Vancouver, X Prize and IBM announced a new $5 million prize for teams that show how humans can team up with artificial intelligence to solve the world’s biggest challenges. All too often (and sometimes with good reason), artificial intelligence is portrayed as something that could ultimately harm humanity. Peter Diamandis, the founder of the X Prize Foundation, has had enough. “I’m sick and tired of the dystopian conversation around AI,” he said at TED. That’s why the nonprofit X Prize —  best known for giving millions in prize money in public competitions — created its latest challenge. Teams will be allowed to create their own challenges for AI-human collaboration. Every year, they will compete against each other at the IBM World of Watson conference.…
