3rd graders get brainy at neuroscience demonstration

Third graders from Lake Forest Country Day school learned a lot about brains during a Dec. 1 visit to the neuroscience program at Lake Forest College including how brains feel. Prof. Shubhik DebBurman aimed to show the children how the brain senses the world, how the brain integrates that information and makes decisions and how the decisions are translated into thoughts and actions. After donning lab coats and latex gloves, the 16 or so third-graders listened to a brief overview by DebBurman then walked to a table featuring both models and real human brains. “Is it real?” a boy asked. “The last two brains are real,” DebBurman said.
